There are various types of letter that can be written. For example you can write to the editor of your local newspaper to highlight the dangers of nuclear weapons. You can write to your local MP expressing your views or to ask for information. All of this keeps nuclear issues in the public eye and puts pressure on the government.
CND has a letter-writing team, which sends out letters eight or nine times a year. We provide background information and a list of points to make. Not everyone can write every letter but even one a year helps. For current letter, click here. To join the scheme, please email membership@cnduk.org or ring the National office, indicating whether you want to receive information by e-mail or post.
A UK Ambassador to the UN has said that the NGOs should continue to write to him since 'their correspondences make a difference and have sometimes changed his instructions'. Civil servants have complained about letters from CND members 'clogging the system'! So let's make our presence felt!
