Faslane 365 is a new initiative aimed at causing constant, peaceful disruption of the Faslane nuclear submarine base on the Clyde from October 1st 2006. With Trident replacement putting British nuclear weapons back on the agenda there is an opportunity for peaceful direct action to have a real effect on the debate.
Groups and individuals from East Anglia have often made the trip to Scotland in recent years. They have joined in with the annual Big Blockades and more frequent smaller actions at Faslane, building up a wealth of experience in taking action there.
The idea of Faslane 365 is that groups take on a 2-day time slot during which they are responsible for keeping the base blockaded for as long as they can until all their blockaders have been arrested.
A group of us in Norwich and the local area (Norwich Plus) has started meeting and preparing to take on the 26th /27th October 2006 slot. We are still looking for more people to join us, including those willing to risk arrest by taking part in the blockade, but also those prepared to help with non-arrestable tasks such as maintaining a constant presence at the base (in shifts) and with other support roles.
We will be providing transport from Norwich (leaving on the 25th and returning on the 28th October), accommodation and food up there, help with preparing ourselves for the event (nonviolent direct action training, getting into affinity groups). If you can provide enthusiasm for getting rid of British nuclear weapons, 4 days of your time in October, and some time beforehand to prepare, you could be part of it too.
We would welcome people from across East Anglia to join us in Norwich Plus, but we are hoping that some other areas will take on a time slot of their own.
